Pretty good start! I do have a few recomendations,

Add animations to the cows like walking and eating
Have the female cow (and any other non-playable cows) move on their own
Change a few of the graphics to make them look a bit better (some look kinda windows 98ish)
Add an option to mate or not
Have some kind of curency like grass or coins or milk
Maybe add a fence to the boarders of the farm (i cant remember if you already had that)
A few other things I cant think of off the top of my head

Over all very very excellent start! I hope you continue to work with dsgm, welcome to the community ^_^

Here you go, random movement for NPC's and the like

Movement_AI.dsgm
DSGM file example
(2.61 KiB) Downloaded 147 times

Movement AI.nds
NDS to showcase it
(281.06 KiB) Downloaded 151 times

The object will
- Move for a random amount of time in a random direction, keeping inside the screen area, then decide whether to remain still, or choose another direction to move in until the next decision.

It works by having a variable to hold the chosen direction, and one for the amount of time until the next decision about what to do. The decision timer will count down till it hits 0, then a random direction will be chosen and a new amount of time until the next decision.

Two variables are declared in the variable area for these.

You impressed me by asking for an example rather than for someone to do it for you, I hope you learn from this example I made :)

I copy and pasted it into my game but when I try to build the game there are a bunch of errors in it
Can you help?

My suggestion is that you study the example that Cilein gave you until you understand how it works. Then you should be able to figure out how to implement it into your game. Copy and pasting isn't the best way to approach things in programming.

Make sure you declare the variables I did, they are the not-so-obvious bit. Also paste the error you get on compile, or does it compile but the movement doesn't work? Remember if you have any code that sets the NPCs positions in there that isn't from my example it might be competing with the code I gave to move them or keep them still. Did you make or take the cow sprites used? They are quite cute.

Copying and pasting, getting to compile/work, then tweaking numbers to see what does what is a good way to learn indeed.

Sorted the NPC movement, your errors and tweaked it so it works better with your game, see PM.
