I'm laying off the development for a little bit. I've been spending all my free time on it and its been overwhelming so I'm taking a break for a bit. I'll probably clean a few things up a bit and let you guys try out the new features. I've easily spent 60+ hours on this project in just a week. I've been working on this for two weeks and am spending at least 3 to 5 hours a day on it. My brain needs rest, lol

I work in spurts of motivation. So I did a lot of progress now but over the next two weeks I probably won't get much done at all.

OK, here's some wall so far. Only vertical right now, and no damaged ones yet. Wanted to see if this would work:

It doesn't quite fit. Your sprite is the top picture. The wall sprite is a little too much of a top down view compared to the character sprites. Looking back the characters aren't very top down but that's ok because I like them. The next picture I'm including is just a slight reworking of your wall sprite. Yes it's hideous but I just did it real quick to show you what the perspective should closer resemble. I might just keep the wall sprite to something like this because although it doesn't quite match the characters I do like the design.

Re: The Living Dead 3 - The Plan for Survival

Worked on the project a bit right now and here is a progress update so far on what's been added. Not much of the mechanics have changed. Only added a weight system to the game so you can only pick up items if you have enough space (aka, aren't carrying over your character's limit). Also the weapons have be rebalanced a bit and I will soon hopefully decrease the number of action points awarded each turn.

The biggest thing I've added was the start to level generation. So far, the map layout works based off an array storing data. So to "load" a map, I'd just need to reinitialize the array data with new content. To do this, I plan to do this via backgrounds that will work kinda like a collision map. Basically a background would have a grid system where I'd add colors to represent different objects being placed in the map (walls, player start positions, zombie spawn points, items, ect). By reading of these colors, my game should then be able to store this information into the games storage arrays that it already is running off of.

This loading system would be great for allowing me to quickly create maps, and maybe in the feature even have external maps that could be placed onto the SD card (in some kind of save data format or being able to load backgrounds from the SD). So far the only neat feature I've added to the system is that I can place walls, and then the game will change the wall sprite to the correct frame to represent the corresponding edge, shape, size, ect. to complete the structure I'm drawing. So far it only does rooms/borders, but I can easily just random one sided walls. Before I can do this efficiently though I need the sprites to be redone.

BL, I'd life for the sprites to be centered. By this I mean that whether the wall is the top side of a room or the bottom side, the "wall" is centered in the sprite. This will make coding the auto wall drawing easier and more efficient. I could do it myself, but if you would like to then go ahead because I think to center the sprites you'd have to redesign the walls a bit since the perspective would have to change a bit. To see what I mean, look at the photos I provided below and you'll see how the visual walls sit off centered in the grid squares. These photos are the results of my game auto arranging the walls. Neat don't you think? The numbers over them just symbolize which sprite frame they are.

Enjoy! Hopefully I'll post another demo or so in a week.

Very neat.
I should be able to re-center them fine, I think. I'd have to remove the shadows, but I guess that'd be fine.

Here are the re-reworked ones now. Phew.
Made a new post to ensure you see this.
I had to cut the shadows out due to lack of space, but they still look pretty good.

sweet, thanks. I've updated the sprites. Next I need a half destroyed wall. Haven't decided if I want it to look like a half destroyed wall or rubble. I'm open to any design really. Once I have these sprites I can work on the shooting through walls mechanic. Once that's done I will post another demo to show off all the new things added into the game.

So I spent some time today and I've now got bullet penetration implemented. Since I don't have any half wall sprites or anything yet, the walls just remain the same. The way it works is if you shoot through a wall you will deal less damage for every wall the bullet goes through. Also, when shooting through a wall, the bullet will slowly destroy the wall. Each weapon has a different penetration values. The more walls you shoot through at a time, the more bullet penetration weakens your attack. I want to add that weaker walls will increase bullet penetration but haven't quite found a formula yet that I approve of yet.

Very cool. Will make damaged walls post-haste.
Will there be an Anti-Machine Rifle named "Subtlety" that can obliterate walls?
Just an idea...
